The BMW R 1300 GS is one of the best-selling motorcycles in the world and sets the highest standards in terms of precision and quality. As a visible component, the frame support (Oberzug) is an important component of the structure, influencing the accuracy of the fit and the premium aesthetics of the entire motorcycle.
Technical implementation of the project
The Challenge
The production of the bracket required the precise manufacture of two mirror visible elements (right/left) of different widths of material. Both components had to be manufactured with perfect accuracy, while meeting the highest requirements for surface quality and dimensional stability. Even the slightest deviations would be immediately visible after assembly.
Solution
Thanks to the use of the ARISA servo press in combination with the transfer die, the stamping process has been precisely adapted to different geometries and widths of the material. The result: consistent fit accuracy and repeatable component quality seen in series production.
Competences within the Group
The implementation of this project demonstrates how production at various locations within the Muhr Group creates added value. The production of the frame support is an example of an integrated process chain, which represents the successful debut of MM Systems in the motorcycle sector.
